Residency Purchase Terms

Clear terms for your preparation, residency and cancellation options.

Enrolment acknowledgement: By enrolling in a TCI residency, you confirm that you have read and understood these policies. Your rights under applicable law remain protected.

Who provides your residency

Your legal seller and residency provider is Charlotte Millington. The Travel Content Institute (TCI) is the name used for the residency program.

Contact: hello@travelcontentinstitute.com.

Your selected package, residency dates, currency and purchase date form part of your purchase agreement. Keep your payment receipt and booking confirmation.

What your payment purchases

Payment is in full through PayPal, in the USD or CAD option you select. The prices in each currency are fixed. No tax is currently added.

Your payment purchases the whole selected residency: four days in Paris or London, or nine consecutive days for Paris + London, including the travel day between cities. Residency preparation materials are included in the total price.

Preparation-materials delivery: Immediately after payment, you receive confirmation, your residency dates, travel responsibilities, a preparation schedule and a sample lesson. After the voluntary full-refund window ends, you receive Strong Start access with weekly releases and Business Kit access. During preparation and before fieldwork, you receive the Field Production Toolkit and its walkthrough. After your residency, you receive closeout materials and access to supplied links while they remain active. These materials are included in the total residency price; no separate material value is deducted from refunds or future residency participation.

Paris + London includes four residency days in each city and one travel day. See Inside a TCI Residency for the education and working method.

Package / currencyTotal residency price
Single city · USD$699.00
Single city · CAD$995.00
Paris + London · USD$1075.00
Paris + London · CAD$1495.00

Residents arrange and pay for all travel, accommodation, meals and personal travel expenses, including their Eurostar tickets between London and Paris for the combined package. Eurostar fares are not included in the residency fee. TCI provides guidance and recommends a train for the London-to-Paris transfer. Travelling on that train is optional. Residents may travel separately, but must arrive in Paris by the required deadline shared in their preparation materials. Residents travelling separately complete the rail-story assignment independently. Travel medical insurance is required.

Arriving early: We recommend arriving in the city where your residency begins before the first scheduled day, allowing time for travel delays and to settle in. This helps you arrive ready to participate and reduces the chance of missing residency time because of travel disruption. For Paris + London, follow the separate Paris arrival deadline shared in your preparation materials.

If you cancel

Full-refund window: You may cancel for a full refund until midnight at the end of the seventh calendar day after your purchase, or until your selected residency begins, whichever comes first. The purchase date is day zero. The deadline uses Pacific local time in Victoria, British Columbia, including daylight saving time. Once your residency begins, this cancellation window closes, even if seven days have not passed. No preparation fee is deducted.

After the full-refund window, before the residency begins: you may request a transfer to an equivalent place in the same TCI residency at a future date. This preserves your purchased participation rather than creating a monetary credit balance. No preparation-materials charge is deducted from your future place.

Where applicable law requires a refund or different treatment, those legal rights take precedence over this policy.

If you do not attend: contact TCI within 48 hours after the scheduled residency start time to request future residency participation. After that window, an exception requires a doctor’s note confirming that you were unable to communicate for medical reasons during the relevant period. The note does not need to disclose your diagnosis. Any rights required by law remain protected.

If you withdraw after the residency begins

No refunds after the residency begins: Once your selected residency has begun, no refunds are issued for resident cancellations, withdrawals or missed time. Future residency participation remains available under the rules below, including restoration of a partially attended day in full. This does not affect the refunds described for TCI cancellation or failure to deliver, or any refund required by applicable law.

If you withdraw after your selected residency begins, you can complete your remaining residency days in a future TCI cohort. A partially attended day is restored in full as a day of future residency participation. For example, if you complete one day and leave halfway through the second day of a four-day residency, you have three days of future participation.

TCI records your remaining days, including any partially attended day restored in full. The same rule applies to the combined package’s travel day, when participation includes travelling between London and Paris. Future participation is a place in a future residency, not a cash credit. Any refund or other remedy required by applicable law takes precedence.

Using your future residency place

Future residency places are non-transferable and belong to the resident to whom they were issued. A future place preserves like-for-like participation in the same residency at a later date, including when the original booking was purchased at a discounted price. A change of date for the same residency does not lose that original deal. If you choose a different residency, any additional charge is calculated using the current price difference between the original and replacement packages, preserving the value of your original deal. The calculation and any additional payment always use your original purchase currency, CAD or USD, and TCI’s established prices in that currency. The CAD and USD prices are independently set; no currency conversion is used.

Use period: You must attend your future residency within 24 months of the date the future place is issued. Booking within that period for a residency after the deadline does not meet this requirement. If TCI cannot offer a suitable replacement residency within the 24-month period, your deadline extends to allow you to attend the next suitable cohort TCI offers. Any rights required by applicable law take precedence.

Cancellation and refund requests

Email hello@travelcontentinstitute.com with your name, selected residency and PayPal transaction reference. State whether you are cancelling or withdrawing and whether you are requesting a refund or future residency participation. Do not send card or banking details.

A full refund under the cancellation-window policy means the full amount paid in the original transaction currency. Refunds will be returned through the original payment method where available.

If TCI postpones your residency: If you cannot attend the new dates, you may choose a full refund or a future residency place. Tell TCI your choice in writing. Once your choice is confirmed, it is final: a future place cannot later be changed to a cash refund under this policy. Any rights required by applicable law remain protected.

TCI will acknowledge requests within two business days and initiate approved refunds within seven business days. Any earlier deadline required by law takes precedence. Payment-provider processing time may affect when the refunded money appears in your account.

If TCI cancels your residency: you receive a full refund of the amount paid. A future residency place will not be substituted for that refund.

Major disruption: If TCI cannot deliver the residency before it begins, you receive a full refund. If delivery is interrupted after it begins, TCI refunds the undelivered portion of the residency, subject to any greater remedy required by law. Future residency participation may be offered only as an option you choose.

Your legal rights come first

If these terms conflict with applicable British Columbia law, that law prevails. Nothing in these terms removes or limits any mandatory consumer cancellation, refund or other rights. Any other mandatory law applicable to your purchase also continues to apply.

Where the law requires a full refund, TCI will not substitute a future residency place or deduct a preparation-materials charge unless the law permits that treatment.

Access and downloads

You can continue to use the supplied links while they remain active. We recommend downloading and saving all materials within 30 days of program completion. Links may be updated or retired as the program changes, so keep your own copies rather than relying on continuing online access.

Privacy and your information

The enrolment and waitlist forms collect the information you enter, including your name, email address, selected residency and season, and your acknowledgements. TCI uses it to administer your request, match enrolment to payment, arrange your residency and send the updates you requested. Emergency contact information is requested later as part of resident preparation.

The website uses WordPress.com and Jetpack to process form submissions. Form notifications are sent to hello@travelcontentinstitute.com, and submissions may be stored in the site’s forms dashboard. PayPal processes payments; do not send card or banking details through TCI’s forms.

Information is retained as needed to administer your booking or waitlist request and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. Waitlist consent applies to the residency updates you requested. You can ask to leave the waitlist or request access to or correction of your information by contacting Charlotte Millington at hello@travelcontentinstitute.com.
