A Day in the Residency

A Day in the Residency

Your creative voice. Your pitch-ready portfolio. Your next chapter.

Picture yourself here

You step into London or Paris with your own ideas, your own perspective and a clear ambition for your work. With focused time, practical guidance and other creators beside you, you turn the city’s everyday moments into a portfolio that feels like you.

You have space to explore, try an idea and make it stronger. Each day brings you closer to showing prospective clients what you can create for them, with greater confidence in your work and your business.

The daily rhythm

You receive your residency preparation materials electronically in advance, so you can arrive prepared and ready to create.

During the residency, you practise using working documents to plan, organise and review your assignments. Build habits you can apply to future client work.

Begin with the day’s brief and your plan: who are you helping, and what must the work prove? Use your fieldwork time to gather the needed coverage. Return to your edit, review it against the brief and use guidance and feedback to decide what to improve.

You practise a repeatable way to prepare and deliver travel content: define the job, plan the coverage, create the assets and review the result. Your portfolio shows your creative work; your documents show how you organise it. You continue developing both after the residency.

What you make each day

You build a structured, systematic portfolio that is ready to support your pitches. Every day adds to a body of work that reflects your individual style, your strengths and the travel businesses you want to work with.

Choose a defined traveller and a useful question for each piece. An illustrative brief might ask whether a solo visitor can reach an attraction without renting a car. Your work would need the route, walking distance, entrance, obstacles and return journey, not just attractive footage.

Give each portfolio piece a short context note: who it is for, what question it answers and what evidence supports it. Keep your brief and review notes so a prospective client can understand both the assets and the decisions behind them.

You practise selecting and presenting the work that best fits a particular pitch. A clear collection supports your introduction, but it does not guarantee a client, commission or partnership.

Your daily starting point: at least one edited video and three photographs. Use each day to progress towards five finished category pitch videos, 100 distinct shots, your creative and creator portfolios, and a reusable travel b-roll library. Your daily edits can contribute to the pitch videos.

Four days to build your next chapter

Day 1: Find your direction

Define who you want to help and what your content should help them decide. Write your brief and choose the portfolio direction that fits your strengths.

Day 2: Make your work recognisable

Use framing, tone and a planned sequence to make your work recognisable. Check that those choices support the traveller’s question, then refine your video and photographs.

Day 3: Connect your creativity to clients

Practise asking what a business needs and defining the assignment before discussing price. Connect your proposed deliverables, revisions and usage rights to an offer you can explain.

Day 4: Bring your portfolio together

Review your strongest work against its brief. Select and organise relevant assets, keep the planning documents and identify practical next steps before approaching a client.

Arrive inspired. Keep building after you leave.

Complete your post-registration tasks and seven-day pre-residency preparation. With your electronic materials in hand, start defining your audience, considering story ideas and planning the coverage you may need.

During the residency, you create and organise your work with guidance, feedback and fellow creators beside you. You remain responsible for completing your assignments and preparation. Read the short registration details for travel arrangements, equipment and completion requirements.

Make your daily output useful

Your daily work builds towards a portfolio with range, a clear creative voice and an extensive footage library. Resident-only shoot-planning materials help you capture useful content you can develop into different videos and future projects.

Ask three questions before you add a piece to your portfolio: What traveller decision does it support? What can the viewer actually see or verify? What would you change after reviewing it?

Two cities. More room for your creative voice.

Choose Paris + London to build your portfolio across two distinctive settings. Discover how your style carries from London’s movement and daily rituals to Paris’s atmosphere and detail, giving you a broader range of work to share with prospective clients.

Your London-to-Paris travel day adds another story to explore. The journey becomes part of your creative experience, connecting your work across both cities.

You spend four residency days in each city, with a travel day between them: nine consecutive days from March 23–31 or November 2–10, 2027.

Build a portfolio with range and purpose

Five finished brand pitch videos: Create one for each of five travel categories: accommodation; attractions and tourism; transport and travel services; food and hospitality; and travel tech and gear. Each introduces your approach, shows relevant work and explains the value you can offer brands in that category.

100 distinct shots: Your residency includes a resident-only shoot-planning resource to help you build a broad collection of footage for your portfolio videos and reusable b-roll library. The detailed shoot lists are shared with enrolled residents.

Your portfolios: Select finished category work for your creative portfolio. Build a compact creator portfolio with an introduction, selected examples, services, contact details and short project descriptions explaining your decisions. Leave with a completed starter portfolio, or a structured foundation with finished pieces, organised supporting assets and a clear completion plan.

Your reusable b-roll library: Create in some of London and Paris’s most iconic settings and everyday travel environments. Organise an extensive footage library you can draw from for future client projects, recording locations, permissions and usage restrictions.

The four-day residency establishes this core portfolio offering. Paris + London gives you more time and two settings to develop its range and depth. Five category pitch videos and 100 distinct shots describe the core offering, rather than five videos per city.
